Audi Technology Package

For many years, Audi Technology Package in-house infotainment system has been known as in use with different levels of capability. Let’s break down what we do.

How does MMI work?

How does MMI work Audi Technology Package

All new AUDI cars have some sort of MMI. At the heart of the system is the dashboard-mounted display screen. In some models, such as the latest Audi DQ3 Sportback (above), it is integrated into the Dash. Others, such as the A4, have a freestanding screen at the top of the dash.

Regardless of where the screen is placed, you can operate it just like a normal touchscreen, just like your phone. In previous years, not all AUDI models came with Dell’s touchscreen functionality, so ODA fitted a rotary scroll wheel on the center console that you can use to navigate the system’s menus. These days, it is being moved down and will be replaced by a laptop-style touchpad as shown in the DQ5 below.

You can use this to swipe through menus and to write in address letters, in set-nav using your index finger. Because the driver’s left side is aligned, the right-handers may find it difficult to operate the touchpad, but the Audi d’s system is very good at recognizing letters – even if they’re wrecked and distorted anyway.

The MMI also comes with a digital instrument display called the Audi ‘Virtual Cockpit’. Simply put, it is the second high-definition digital screen in front of the steering wheel that replaces traditional analog dials.

You can adjust this using the buttons on the steering wheel to show driving information and a range of sat-nav directions.

BMW and Mercedes offer similar systems. BMW’s display mimics the binary shape of a traditional instrument similar to the Audi D, but Mercedes chose the same square widescreen design that connects to the central touchscreen like the Mercedes GLS above.

What can MMI do?

What can MMI do Audi Technology Package

MMI controls all Audio, communication, and navigation functions of the car. These features vary depending on which Audi you buy.

The entry-level Audi A1 technique comes with MMI Radio Plus, which is shown below. It includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen display, a 10-inch digital instrument display, DAB radio, Bluetooth, a USB port for charging and connecting your phone, and voice control.

There are many intermediate grades, but many AUDI models now come as standard with the MMI Navigation Plus system. And often you can pay extra to fit it as part of Dina’s Alternative Technological Pack G Pack. Depending on the model, this costs between 1500 and 1700 lbs. This is an additional cash value.

The MMI Navigation Plus includes at least a 10-inch touchscreen display; 3D Sat-NAV with zoomable map and street view function, showing the 3D representation of buildings around the car; A road assistant who learns your frequent trips, monitors traffic conditions on them, and walks around the jam;

Dials from a 10- or 12-inch digital driver (called an Audi ‘virtual cockpit’) that can be configured to show the driver any information; Depending on the model, Android Apple Toe and/or Apple Pal CarPlay; And, in some cases, wireless phone charging.

It is then connected to Audi, which connects the MMI to the Internet. Each AUDI model Dell gets a safety and service package, which provides assistance for accidents and breakdowns and can be used to book service.

It works in conjunction with the My Audi app on your phone, so you can remotely lock and unlock the car, view vehicle status reports, track its location, and receive theft alarm notifications.

Navigation and Infotainment Services

Navigation and Infotainment Services AUDI

The navigation and infotainment services system can show Google Earth images, flight time information, fuel prices, and parking charges. It also allows access to some Audio online Audio streaming services and you can write messages through it. Various third-party applications are also available for useful services. Essentially, it’s a home-brew version of Android D’s Android Toe and Apple Paul CarPlay.

It is worth noting that Audi d connect services are subject to a subscription charge, but Audi d is included for free for the first 36 months.

Audi’s MMI system comes with a basic voice-control feature that lets you make phone calls and change radio stations without having to lift a finger. But BMW’s personal assistant (above) and Mercedes’ ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice-recognition software are the best.

Both allow you to adjust a wide range of car settings, and they will respond to plain speech instead of the robotic-sounding commands you need to use with the Audi d system. For example, saying ‘I’m hot’ will trigger BMW and Mercedes systems to lower the temperature of the control.

Which of the following models have MMI

As mentioned earlier, all AUDI models come with some form of Dell MMI. If the model you are interested in has one of the lower-grade systems, a top-spec MMI navigation plus system can usually be added as an option.

It is usually included in the technical pack, which bundles some other useful features together. Exactly those features depend on the model. The cost of a pack is usually kept between 1500 to 1700, which represents a fairly large savings rather than specifying all the features individually.

Dual touchscreen systems

The most advanced upmarket Audi D models like the latest D8 and Audi DQ8 have a dual touchscreen system. The second ‘screen’, mounted below the MMI display, replaces the physical heating and ventilation controls with an additional touch-sensitive display. It works fairly well and uses a haptic response that produces a click stimulus when you press an icon, but some people may find physical control easier to use while driving.

Is Audi MMI good?

The BMW iDrive system set the benchmark for infotainment systems. But now we have the latest system in Mercedes, called the MBUX, considered the best.

It looks beautiful, the menus are easy to use, the graphics are easy to read. The technology works well with commands like ‘Hey Mercedes’. Which ranks the third MMI system third among these premium German brands.
